And what happens in your house when someone acts bad?

Boy's answer: Dogs get spanked. Boys get kisses. (big smile)

The Word Never Returns Void PDF Print E-mail

I ate dinner with a Kindergartner and his family today after church. He excitedly told me about a recent happening at his house. He said that he had started to take something from his sister's room, but realized that he shouldn't do it. "I heard God's Word in my heart and I remembered I shouldn't do it!" he said with amazement. "I really did! I heard God's Word in my heart!"

Thank you, teachers, for faithfully planting God's Word into the hearts of preschoolers and causing faithroots to grow!

It was an "All Right" Day! PDF Print E-mail

Preschoolers generally don't like change, and that was evident in some of their comments as they entered the VBCC for church. I overheard more than once, "This isn't my church! I want to go to my church!" But when they saw the familiar faces of the teachers and saw Believers' Bayou, they realized, in the words of one preschooler, "it's all right!"

Thanks to all you "egg-ceptional" people who taught the children about Jesus on Easter morning! You made the difference for the many, many children who attended! You are the ones who made it "all right."

What was Unveiled to You? PDF Print E-mail
Written by liz hewitt
Sunday, 16 March 2008

I hope you got the opportunity to worship with your family during the last "Unveiled" worship night. On that night, two things were unveiled to me:

1. At the very end of the night, little Annaleis joined her daddy on stage for one more song of praise. Pastor Rusty's natural flow of worship was a great example to all daddies. He took Anna's hands and danced with her. I'm sure he was just praising the Lord with his child - most likely he does that at home too. But in doing so, he showed all daddies a way they can worship with their children - to dance and rejoice!

2. The thrill of dancing with her daddy was evident on Anna's face, as was the joy evident on Pastor Rusty's face. It was such a great example of how Father-God's joy must be evident when we dance with Him in worship.

Was anything "unveiled" to you during the last "Unveiled" evening worship service?

"Momma, Miss Lizzy Can't Cook!" PDF Print E-mail

Friday, 22 February 2008

"Momma, Miss Lizzy can't cook! She keeps burning the cookies!" Several mothers have told me they have heard this statement from their children this week. "Is it true?" the moms ask. Is the secret out, I wonder?

"The Bible Teaches Us to Obey" is the lesson topic for this month, and I have to confess that "Miss Lizzy" has not been obeying when it comes to cooking. In week 1's skit, "Miss Lizzy" wants to learn to cook, so she studies cookbooks, but thinks she can do it better herself. She doesn't want to follow the authority she reads. In weeks 2 & 3, Pappy attempts to teach "Miss Lizzy" to cook, only after she reads the book of Esther. "Miss Lizzy" sees Esther only as a story of a girl becoming a queen. She doesn't realize why Pappy wants her to read it. After a couple failed attempts to bake cookies (one time, she sets the oven to 450 degrees instead of 350 because she wants them to cook faster), she discovers that obedience does bring blessing. Just like Esther obeyed her cousin Mordecai (her father-figure), she must obey Pappy (as a father figure).

As week 4 approaches, we have great hope that every child and critter will receive a hot baked chocolate chip cookie since "Miss Lizzy" now understands the importance of obeying and promises to follow Ephesians 6:1 "Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right."

So you may have heard about the "burned cookies." (Spoiler Alert! It was actually just a fog machine producing all that smoke!) But have you heard about the bible lesson?

Curiously, I have heard reports of a few children intentionally not telling their parents the scripture memory verse and the obedience lessons they have learned. I have noticed a few sly smiles from some children and refusal to comment. But my prayer is that as you know what is being taught in class, you can guide your family's conversations through Pappy's Suppertime Sermons and reinforce the lesson at home. Don't let the kids keep the lesson a secret - make it a family event and get the secret out!
